A Celestial Joke

I’ve been writing a lot of serious posts lately. So,  I just thought I’ll share with you a joke that suddenly popped up in my head while reading a book on astronomy.A word of caution though – most people don’t find my jokes funny😓.

One day, in science class, while attempting to complete end-of-the chapter exercises for a friend :

Fill in the blanks:

Jupiter is the biggest planet in the Solar system. It can be seen with the naked eye. Hence, it is an astronomical sight.

Jupiter is made of gas. Hence, it is a _________.

I took my pencil and filled the only blank left :

Jupiter is made of gas. Hence, it is a gastronomical sight.

For a long time now, messy mess food has been diverting my attention to fine food…In case you don’t know, gastronomy is the art of cooking and good eating. It really doesn’t have much to do with gas, except that gas is used for cooking.

By the way, the actual word to be filled in the blank is ‘gas giant’. The outer planets  -Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are gas giants as they are made of dense gas. They do not have a solid core like the earth does (Imagine walking on a gassy surface!). In fact,  if Jupiter had been bigger, it would have been a star like the Sun. Also, do you know that Saturn has such low density that it could float on water ?

Have a good day!
