Lucky we are, aren’t we?

On this day when we celebrate the 68th anniversary of being a sovereign republic, let us salute these 10 awesome and incredible Indians:

1.Our Soldiers:

There is a reason why we start our Republic Day celebrations with the Prime Minister laying a floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. Our soldiers -the army, the navy and the air force – are our biggest heroes. They protect out borders, our oceans and our sky. They are there to save us whenever a disaster strikes.Their sacrifice, labour and attentiveness free us from fear. They are the reason why you and I can write and read blogs carefree. In short, they are our unyielding and powerful shield.

2.Our Farmers :

Their toil and sweat help us sleep with a satisfied stomach. Even when their own children go to sleep with empty stomachs, they work tirelessly to feed an entire nation. They are our backbone.

Jai Jawan Jai Kisan !

(“Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer”)

Lal Bahadur Shastri ,Former Prime Minister of India

3. Our Craftsmen and weavers

It is because of their indomitable dedication towards their traditional crafts, in spite of their hardships, that we are still able to enjoy the beauty of masterpieces like Banarasi silks, Aranmula mirror, jhoola, pottery, glass beads and bangles, etc.. They are our delicacy.

4. Our Scientists

Despite being a country dominated with poverty, we have some of the most skilled and brilliant scientists in the world, with research institutes  that provide developing cutting- edge research facilities. They are the reason why we were able to send spacecraft to mars in the first attempt itself at an ‘autorickshaw fare’ (the whole mission cost was even lesser than the production cost of the movie ‘Gravity’). They ingeniously built indigenous missiles, air crafts, submarines, nuclear weapons, satellites and space crafts, that have revolutionized our defense, agriculture, weather forecasts and communication. They are our brain.

5. Our Voters

Yes..you and me included (probably). Our voters, as much as we sarcastically hail as the stupidest people for falling prey to caste politics and corrupted politicians, are also, surprisingly, the most intelligent species in the world. They watch, silently. And they wait, patiently. Till that fated day comes, when they finally feel that power is in their hands. That is the day when they strike back, and teach the political rascals a lesson or two. Like how they did in 2014.

Never underestimate the power of Indian voters…they are the strength of the largest and the most vibrant democracy in humanity.

6.Our sisters

who resisted and fought bravely against domestic and sexual assaults. And our sisters who continue to protest tirelessly.. they are the questioners of our conscience.

7.Our brothers

who do not hesitate to stand up and protect our sisters. I wish we had more of them..They are our hope.

8.Our amazing athletes

who made us proud during the last Olympics and Paralympics. Special mention to our awesome sisters who saved our pride, and our special family  who won us hauls at Rio de Janeiro. They are our pride.

9. Our youth

who pledged to protect our culture, our heritage, and our arts. They are the reason why our diversity is still intact. They are the protectors of our legacy.

10. Our Prime Minister – Narendra Modi.

I admit that I’m one of the young bloods who admire him. He isn’t just our Prime Minister – the most powerful servant of India. He is also the best brand ambassador India has ever had. No one in the political history of India can, arguably, beat his skill to promote and surprise this nation. He is, to a considerable majority of this country, our voice and our (   ) choice.

(Bracket to be filled in 2019)

We all are waiting for a savior…But shouldn’t we be our own savior? After all, the task of building a great India is our honor, not just our duty. Let us dedicate ourselves to this task with a sense of responsibility.

With colourful, rich diversity

Let us stay in eternal unity

Truly one are we,

To bear responsibility

And be the pride of our country,

Serving, with love, this humanity.

-Surya Ramachandran

May the universe continue to bless this nation and the world!

With Love,

Surya.😊

Jai Hind!
